What is Magical Change?
Magical Change is a transformative approach designed to help children and young people shift their mindset and tackle various challenges. This innovative method has shown remarkable effectiveness, especially in reducing anxiety and improving emotional well-being. The process often leads to significant and rapid improvements, empowering children to take charge of their own recovery and build resilience for the future.
How Does Magical Change Work?
Our method focuses on partnership and empowerment. Children are active participants in their own journey, moving away from feeling like a “case” and toward embracing the challenge of personal growth. This approach is easy for parents to support and simple for schools to implement, ensuring a positive and long-lasting impact.
Addressing the Growing Mental Health Crisis
With rates of depression and anxiety among young people rising dramatically, the need for effective interventions has never been greater. Currently, three to four children in every class of 30 are affected by diagnosable mental health issues. Budget cuts and the long-term effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have only heightened the urgency for innovative solutions like Magical Change.

Transforming Lives: The Story Behind Magical Change
A Journey of Hope and Transformation
Ten years ago, I met a nine-year-old student, "A," who was struggling with severe anxiety that impacted every aspect of her life. Her anxiety had escalated to the point where she ended up in a hospital emergency department due to a panic attack. Determined to help, I spent 45 minutes talking with her, and then something extraordinary happened.
The Beginning of Magical Change
Within a week, A's anxiety symptoms began to diminish. After just two weeks, she confidently told me, "I don't think I'll ever be afraid of anything again in my life." This astonishing and rapid transformation marked the beginning of my journey to understand and develop what is now known as the Magical Change method.
Backed by Psychological Expertise
Intrigued by A's rapid progress, I sought to understand why the method was so effective. I consulted with an educational psychologist, a clinical psychologist, and a university psychologist specializing in children's mental health. Together, we connected the results to established psychological theories, validating the method's effectiveness.
Expanding the Impact: Helping More Children
I began applying the Magical Change method to other children experiencing similar issues, including those referred to CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) for severe anxiety. I have now worked privately with over 150 children and young people, dealing with a range of challenges, other than anxiety, such as:
- Low Self-Esteem
- Lack of Focus
- Poor Social Skills
- Behavioral Issues
- Shyness
- ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder)
- Eating and Sleeping Disorders
- Anger Management
- Compulsions
- Bereavement
A Solution for Growing Mental Health Challenges
As mental health challenges among young people have increased and resources have become stretched, I have sought to expand the reach of the Magical Change method. I have now successfully trained educators and child professionals across the UK and in other parts of the world to implement this approach with their clients and in their schools and communities. Every school could benefit from having someone trained in Magical Change to support their students' mental well-being.
Join the Magical Change Movement
I am inspired and humbled by the courage and resilience of the young people who have embraced the Magical Change method and transformed their lives. Now, it's time to share this powerful approach with an even wider audience. Online training and support in Magical Change has begun, so that anyone, anywhere, can access the means of helping young people to thrive. Founder
Trudy Hindmarsh, founder of Magical Change
As a student, I trained as a Samaritan - so I have had 'helping people in trouble' as a fundamental desire from an early age.
"I have been a teacher for 48 years. It was all I ever wanted to be. I started my teaching career, after being trained in Primary Education. However, I ended up starting my career as a teacher in a sixth form setting, teaching English Literature 'A' Level. Further appointments took me through secondary teaching, back to primary education and finally into infant teaching. Eventually, in my final appointment, I was promoted to the senior management team of a large primary school, in Cleveland, and worked as a SENCO (Special Needs Co-ordinator) there for over ten years. At that time, I devised, set up, and operated, a system of individually teaching all the children from 6 years to 11 years, in the school, who were experiencing significant reading difficulties. This one to one contact was significant in developing my approaches within the Magical Change system.
Across 20 years, I was the founder and principal of several very successful Performing Arts schools, which I opened in the NE of England in 1997. We won six awards at local, regional and national level for our work within these schools, from different awarding bodies. The move to this area of teaching came out of a passion for improving the confidence of children. Confidence is the keystone to everything a child can achieve. It has so much to do with academic and personal progress, material success in life, and the development of healthy relationships and resilience to life's problems. Much of the content of the Magical Change concept came into existence during this part of my career." I retired from this business in 2017 to pursue Magical Change and to start teaching examination work in Speech and Drama, privately. Here I have taken a particular interest in helping children to find their own learning styles and refining methods, to help them to learn easily and with lasting effect. This has also fed into the Magical Change method. During this period I also trained as an NLP practitioner with NLP4KIDS, and have pursued a private interest in Neuroscience and in Autism to gain as much knowledge as I can about how the minds of children work.
